What we collect, and what we do not
Written to be read, not to be survived. If a sentence here is unclear, that is our fault — write to us and we will fix the wording.

1. Who this is about
This policy covers two separate things, and they are not the same. This website is a set of static pages describing a product. The RentalGuard app is the product itself, which is not yet released. What the site does with your data today is described in section 2 and is close to nothing; what the app will do is described in section 3 and is the part that matters.
RentalGuard is the name this service trades under. It is not yet an incorporated company, so there is no registered number or office to give you here and we would rather say that than leave the question open — both will appear on this page once there are. A person reads privacy@rentalguard.ai.
2. This website
No cookies. Not one, including the ones most sites call "necessary". This is why you have never seen a consent banner here.
Three settings, stored in your own browser. Your theme, your language and your tone preference are kept in your browser's local storage under rg-theme, rg-locale and rg-tone. They never leave your device and we never see them. Clearing your site data removes them.
No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel, no advertising network, no session recorder and no A/B testing tool on this site. We do not know how many of you there are, which is a trade we made on purpose.
Server logs. The site is served by Netlify, which records the usual things a web server records: your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser's user-agent string and the time. That is Netlify's log, kept under their retention policy, and we use it only to tell whether the site is up.
Two things your browser fetches from elsewhere. The page loads its styling engine from cdn.tailwindcss.com and its animation library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com. Your browser contacts those two servers directly, so they see your IP address the same way any server you visit does. We send them nothing about you and receive nothing back.
If you email us, we have your address and whatever you wrote, for as long as it takes to answer you and a reasonable while after.
3. The app
The app is not released. This section describes what it is designed to handle, so that you can decide before you install it rather than after.
- Photographs of the vehicle that you take during an inspection, with the time and, if you allow it, the place they were taken.
- What you marked — the damage you outlined, its type and severity.
- Vehicle details you enter or scan: make, model, plate, mileage, fuel.
- Documents you choose to store — driving licence, insurance, rental contract, vehicle papers. You decide what goes in; nothing is collected automatically.
- Your account — the email address you sign in with.
Photos you mark as damaged are also sent to us to improve the damage detector. This is the one use of your data that is not simply "give it back to you later", so it gets its own sentence: it is on by default and you can switch it off in Settings, and switching it off does not change anything else about how the app works.
What we do not do. We do not sell your data. We do not show advertising. We do not hand your inspections to a rental company, an insurer or anyone else unless you send them the link yourself — that is the entire point of the product, and a version of it that leaked your evidence to the other side of your dispute would be worthless.
4. What you can ask for
Write to privacy@rentalguard.ai and you can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a file you can open. We will answer within 30 days. You do not need to give a reason, and asking will not degrade the service you get.
Inspection records are kept while your account exists. When you delete a record, or your account, it goes — with one honest exception: backups roll over on their own schedule, so a deleted item can survive in a backup for a short window before it is overwritten.
5. Children
The service is not built for, and not directed at, anyone under 16.
6. Where your data is
The website is served from Netlify's global network. App data is held by our hosting and database providers; the list of them is published here as it is finalised, and we will say so on this page before it changes in a way that matters to you.
7. Changes
If this policy changes we will change the date at the top. If a change is material — new data collected, or a new reason for collecting it — we will say so where you will see it, not only here.
8. Contact
